what we face

portraits and stories of the
ukraInian refugee experience

aUGUST 24 - November 30

After hearing about the plight of Ukrainian refugees challenged with rebuilding their shattered lives in a new country, the artists of Studio Incamminati summoned their skills to offer help. In two separate marathon painting days, they carried out portraits of the refugees, in the hope that these artworks could serve to raise both funds and community awareness. On those same two days, Rowan University’s documentary team –led by Jonathan Akass with assistance from Jada Ali, Joe Pidgeon, and A.J. Amoroso– interviewed the refugees and recorded their stories in video format. Scroll down for links to these interviews.

There are three ways you can help the Ukrainian refugees in the Philadelphia area. First, you can visit the artworks on exhibition at Studio Incamminati beginning on August 24, 2023, and you can purchase them at an auction to be held in September of 2023, thanks to a volunteer auctioneer from Freemans. All proceeds will go directly to a fund for resettling refugee families that is run by Davisville Church. Second, you can donate directly to the Davisville Church Fund here: http://davisville.org/refugees. Third, you can help underwrite a scholarship at Studio Incamminati that will allow a young Ukrainian refugee to pursue his or her dream of becoming a professional painter; please reach out to Daniel Mahlman (215 592-7910 ex. 1) to discuss your vision for the gift,or donate here: https://studioincamminati.edu/support/.

We are proud to partner with Pastor Matt Rosenfeld of Davisville Church to support those in our community who are seeking a better life.

Special thanks to the local businesses who helped to support the event:
