Student Life
A day in the life
We understand incoming students may not be aware of how a day at Studio Incamminati may run
- Arrival: When you arrive in the morning you have access to either the coffee and tea machines in our kitchen or an exemplary cafe and bakery on the first floor. Our students support each other whether that’s bringing in homemade baked goods or candy at holidays.
- Morning session (8:30am-12pm): Instructor demonstration and/or lecture, then students apply what was demonstrated with instructor supervision and feedback.
- Lunch Break (12-12:45pm): We have a kitchen on the premises with any and all supplies you could need, there is also a restaurant on the 1st floor of the building.
- Afternoon session (12:45-3:45pm): Intentionally uninstructed so students have extended time to work through any difficulties and continue to log hours working on the discipline at hand.
The school curriculum is centered around Alla Prima, or direct painting, with the goal of minimal or no measuring needed; so, especially in the fundamental classes, there is a focus on repeated “drills” so that after a period of time the complicated task of depicting the human form becomes second nature.
We have many optional resources as well:
- Lunch-Time Lecture Series – We work with visiting artists and professionals to help you in your pursuit of an artistic career. From professional development discussions to art history lectures our lunch-time lectures aim to give you all the skills you need to succeed.
- Evening Continuing Education Courses – As students you have the option assisting and partaking in our evening continuing education courses run by our faculty and visiting artists. These courses are 8-week intensives based in singular subjects and allow you more time to perfect your craft.
- After Hours Studio Access – As a student at Studio Incamminati, you have access to studio spaces in the building 24/7 all year long if you would like to work on your craft after school hours.
- Access to Professional Models – We have a roster of professional models that work for the school if you or a group of classmates would like to hire someone for a session.
Student Cohort
Students are broken up in the cohort-based learning style, labeled as Studio 1, 2, 3, 4. This style of learning benefits the students by allowing opportunity for collaboration, support, structure, perspective, and networking. For full-time students, usually, they will move through each studio level together with the exception of those who are part-time and may be, for example, in one Studio 1 course part of the week while in a Studio 2 course the rest of the week.
