This class will be taught in Spanish. It will also be held online using Zoom for live teaching and Google Classroom for resources and materials. Students will need access to a laptop or desktop computer. Find further instructions for working online and the supply list at the bottom of the page.

In this eight-class online course, students will familiarize themselves with the following drawing mediums: charcoal, pencil or graphite and ballpoint pen. They will also learn some of the history and chemistry of these three tools.

The instructor will talk about the different characteristics of these three mediums and how the artist can use each one’s “personality” to their favor when they draw. She will also talk about additional tools that work well with each medium. The course will be divided in three parts: one for charcoal, another for pencil and another for ballpoint pen.

Each class will consist of a slide show of works made in the corresponding medium, which will work to visualize the spectrum of images each medium lends itself to making. Followed by the instructor giving a thorough demonstration of the medium while she talks about the process and behavior of the medium.
