Studio incamminati takes center stage in the exhibition "lineage"
A Show that Crystallizes the Gradual Emergence of Contemporary Masters
Lineage, an exhibition currently on view at the Salmagundi Club in New York, features the work of several prominent artists from the Studio Incamminati community: Dean of Fine Arts Dan Thompson, Instructors Kerry Dunn and Ja Fang Lu, and Founding Father Nelson Shanks. The aim of this exhibition’s theme is to elucidate the process of formation and individualization that guides an artist’s development from apprentice to Master. The drawings, paintings, and sculptures in the exhibition also illuminate the support that the Salmagundi Club has given to generations of artists by means of its vast network.
Having studied directly under Nelson Shanks, Kerry Dunn, JaFang Lu, and Dan Thompson continue to transmit their precious craft knowledge to the current students of Studio Incamminati. The aim of this atelier school, in the words of Nelson Shanks, is to “produce great competence and the great painters of the next generation by bringing back the skill of seeing and the skill of craftsmanship.”
The Salmagundi Club, originally called the ‘New York Sketch Class’ when it was founded in 1871, began as a weekly gathering of students and artists committed to perfecting their craft. Today, with over a thousand members, it is the central hub for representational art in New York City, sponsoring events, exhibitions, classes, and demonstrations.
The exhibition Lineage will run through December 10 and a public reception will take place on December 1 from 6 pm-8 pm. Click here to visit the exhibiton webpage.
