intro to figure Sculpture

This figure sculpture workshop is for beginners as well as those with some experience who may be seeking a deeper understanding of sculptural practices and principles. Individual instruction will be prioritized so those with any level of experience will be welcome. Painters in particular will benefit from working in the round, gaining a deeper understanding of the forms and volumes of the figure and how they turn from and enter into the picture plane.

Working with the model and beginning with a short pose to familiarize yourself with the materials, we will follow with a deeper dive: a longer pose, a standing figure utilizing an armature. Pertinent and necessary principles and theories of anatomy, especially surface anatomy – the stuff that matters – that will assist in building a properly proportioned and volumetrically accurate figure will be introduced. Most of all, we’ll be playing with clay, getting our hands a little dirty and having a lot of fun!

Supplies

Supplies: clay, tools and an armature will be about $90.00 and will be available to purchase at the beginning of class. The armature will be built by the instructor (please do not purchase one) and provided to all students. Clay (Chavant NSP medium) will be purchased by the case to reduce the cost and shipping expense. Please contact Harold at kalmus.studio@gmail.com with any questions.

Workshops Payment and Refund Policies

Due to limited class space, tuition is non-refundable. A credit for tuition may be issued up to
30 days before the first workshop class. No credit will be issued after that time. Credits are valid from one year of issue. Registration and enrollment is first-come, first-served with full tuition due at time of registration.

Continuing Education and Emerging Artists School-year Program Payment and Refund Policies

Due to limited class space, tuition must be paid in full at time of registration. A $100 fee is applied for cancellation up to the first class. No refunds will be issued after the first class.
