Still Life Drawing in Charcoal
Still life drawing is one of the best ways to hone the artist’s most reliable art tool: the eye. The setup is always stationary, allowing the artist to take the time for intense observation and revision over the course of the drawing. For centuries, the charcoal medium has been the preferred method for capturing the essentials of an image; it is a beautiful tool with a painterly application that is easily and quickly corrected, making it a perfect channel to strengthen one’s fundamentals. In this class, Studio Incamminati Fellow Kat Haverkamp will teach techniques for observing and interpreting the setup, and approaches to constructing the layout of a setup simply with a focus on light and shadow, the relationships between objects, and relative value.
