Figure Painting Workshop (Through the Color Study Approach)

Instructor: JaFang Lu

June 5-9 (5 days)

9am – 4 pm

Tuition: $699

This workshop introduces students to figure painting using the color study approach.  That is to say they build the painting through accurate calibration of value, color and shape relationships rather than through form/drawing/contour.

We will spend two days going over color study exercises and discuss pertinent principles and concepts.  The areas we will cover include – paint handling, form building with well calibrated color/value relationships, and edge quality.  Students will then apply these skills to a long pose (ranging from 2-3 days) painting.

Instructions include lectures, demos, individual and group critiques.  An optional evening demo can be scheduled (pending budget approval and students’ needs)

While this workshop is open to students of all skill levels, it’s best suited for students with strong drawing foundations, comfortable with experimenting with paints/colors, and learning from mistakes.
