Realist Figure Painting for High School Students

Designed for high school students, this workshop will introduce attendees to painting the human figure with a limited palette. Keeping the palette simple allows the young artist to achieve a deeper and more concrete understanding of how to use gesture and value to accurately express form, without becoming overwhelmed.
Over the course of the workshop, attendees will learn how to construct a painting from an energetic start through to rendered form. Instruction will be given via lecture, demonstration, and individual critique. Lessons will cover oil painting materials, paint handling, the development of a painting, and human anatomy. Attendees will leave the workshop with an understanding of how to properly use and maintain their materials, the importance of gestural starts, how to use value to depict light bathing three dimensional form, and how to use human anatomy to inform their figurative work.
While developed with serious high school art students in mind, this workshop is open to students of all skill and experience levels.
