Emerging Artists (High school students)

Instructor: Rebecca Tait

Saturdays (and 1 Sunday), 12 sessions

1:30pm – 5pm (EST)

Tuition: $615

This long running program has exposed serious artist from teenagers through adults  to a traditional Atelier environment. It is aimed at high school students, but students of all ages are welcome including parents.

Through energetic and repetitive studies, students will be guided through the complex and creative process of painting the nude model. The artist will not only be learning how to truly “see” but to develop a deep understanding of painting the human form through demos, lectures, their anatomy book ( included) and skeletal studies. Each week will focus on exploring specific sections of the human body in detail.

Students will create numerous paintings captured in varying lengths of pose from one minute to seven hours. This rare opportunity offers impressively superior portfolio standouts that propel the student to a realm most high school programs cannot achieve. For the adult students this offers the chance to find strength, knowledge and understanding in painting the human body. All who participate will experience the joy of studying the human form to advance ones own artistic level. This valid form of study has withstood the test of time established by the old masters. and so we will employ the alla prima method to first tackle how to get better drawing. We will build on this by blocking in basic values and modelling with flesh tones, giving us the ‘form’. With this as our foundation… we can then discuss and play with adding color, and finally the flourishes of detail.

About the Artist

Rebecca Tait was born in Camden NJ in 1961. Rebecca’s father, her earliest mentor, was a working artist and he started Rebecca’s classical training at the age of seven. Rebecca’s passion for drawing and painting were nurtured under her father’s strict tutelage. She went on to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and eventually traveled to France to train with Ted Seth Jacobs at studio L’Ecole Albert Defois.

While Rebecca continued to train with highly accomplished artists, namely Robert Liberace and John deMartin, it was her father, and later her final mentor Nelson Shanks, who have had the greatest impact on the artist she is today. Rebecca is known for painting highly narrative figurative works in the classical realism style. She demonstrates her sheer passion for visual story telling through precision drawing, rich luminous color, and dramatically engaging subjects.
