Portrait Painting with the Zorn Palette
In this class we will explore the production of robust portrait paintings with the notoriously simple yet brilliantly sophisticated Zorn palette. Limited chromatic range will afford us more energy and attention to focus on accurate drawing in mass, while revealing that the strength of any palette lies in fine-tuned color relationships as advocated for by Henry Hensche. We will open by practicing gesture in straight line and angle to achieve proportion and perspective with the greatest economy of means, followed by the development of plane and relative value in successive, stragtegic layers, working our way toward a conclusion and in the process, revealing the impressive potential color range offered by the extremely limited Zorn palette.
