Description

Explore the transformative power of light and shadow in this immersive workshop, where these elements become more than just compositional tools—they serve as the foundation for mood, depth, and meaning in your artwork.

You’ll develop the skills to thoughtfully arrange objects, assess both natural and artificial lighting, and utilize chiaroscuro and tonal contrast to express emotion and narrative. Through guided observation, you’ll learn to recognize subtle shifts in illumination, design dynamic compositions, and refine your painting techniques to emphasize the interplay between form and shadow.

This class welcomes both beginners eager to build a strong foundation and experienced artists seeking to enhance their approach. By the end, you’ll have a deeper appreciation for how dramatic lighting can elevate simple still-life subjects into compelling visual stories.

Key Topics Include:

  • Composing still-life arrangements for narrative effect

  • Observing and depicting the nuances of light and shadow

  • Techniques for achieving depth, contrast, and atmosphere

  • Infusing your paintings with symbolism and emotional resonance
