Studio Incamminati is offering three opportunities to paint plein air at Natural Lands’ Cheslen Preserve in Coatesville, Chester County. Registration is required for each workshop and you may sign up for one, two, or all three. The workshops are scheduled in conjunction with “Pints on the Preserve,” a regular monthly event held by Natural Lands (info below).

Cheslen Preserve is 1282 acres of protected open space with over 9 miles of hiking trails and a diverse terrain that includes rolling hills, woodlands, open fields and meadows, and streams. Workshops have been scheduled through the Fall. Attending all 3 should provide an opportunity to observe the changing landscape through the autumn foliage.

The workshops enable artists the experience of painting plein air in a beautiful, pastoral setting with many great vistas and ample subject matter to inspire you. As the workshops progress into late autumn, the sun will be setting and should afford some dramatic late day lighting and fall foliage.

Natural Lands will promote the workshops as part of the event and encourage attendees to engage with the artists and promote their work in a collegial and encouraging environment.

ABILITY\EQUIPMENT

Workshops will address the challenges of working out of doors, working in the elements, the movement of the sun, and working within a limited time constraint.

3.5 hour sessions permit approximately 2 hours of focused painting time with ample time for set up and clean up. Mid-afternoon is the time of day with the most consistent light.

It’s recommended that artists have intermediate experience, familiarity with their medium, and a basic understanding of drawing, composition, and color. In addition to the experience of working outside, the workshop is intended to explore atmospheric perspective, visualizing color in the environment, and combining what we see with what we know in order to interpret your subject.

Pints on the Preserve is a pop-up beer garden, a regular monthly event held throughout the summer and fall at Cheslen’s Lenfest Center pavilion. It is a free event but requires registration and typically attracts as many as 200 visitors.

East Branch Brewing Company’s Beer Truck will serve locally brewed beer, hard ciders, and offer bar food beginning from 2:00pm until evening. There are additional activities provided for both adults and children during the afternoon that includes music, face painting, and games.
