CONSTRUCTING PICTURES FROM IMAGINATION: AN INTRODUCTION TO LINEAR PERSPECTIVE

Instructor: Aidan Barker-Hill

July 25th – July 29th, 2022 (5 days)

9am – 4pm

Tuition: $599

One of the most liberating and enjoyable experiences as an artist is creating your own images from imagination. As a student I struggled to conjure images to a blank sheet of paper without reference, and even when I had reference I had to copy it exactly for it to look good. It took me years to realize that the secret to drawing from imagination is using perspective to construct a 3d image without direct reference. Perspective is one of the most exciting and useful skills a representational artist can develop. The goal of this class is to learn the basics of 1, 2 and 3 point perspective, make observational drawings using construction rather than copying shapes, apply perspective to inventing objects and figures, and ultimately design your own scene without needing an exact reference to replicate.
