Drawing the Figure...The Gestural Approach
Developing the ability to quickly replicate the gesture of a pose allows the artist to incorporate more dynamic poses into his/her figure work, resulting in an artwork with immediacy and expression, while enabling more opportunities for freedom in other areas of the piece.
This class will teach the artist how to capture core gesture and movement while integrating a variety of drawing media into the artwork, generating layering effects and patinas that support the expression and gesture of the model’s pose.
In this three day, fast paced workshop, students will be introduced to a pragmatic yet primal approach to the form. Working between the realistic and the expressive-we will deal with intuitive and instinctual responses, working with space relative to the form. Covered themes will be line behavior, initial gestural responses, and space to figure tensions. This is an expressive approach that will help students create compelling depictions of the form.
